ADWSO - Where We Work (6)

With a population of 655,462 and comprising eight districts, is one of the poorest provinces in the country, where the majority of the people live in poverty. There are high illiteracy rates and a lack of public infrastructure, including power and energy. These issues, along with poverty, unemployment, and inadequate infrastructure, particularly in rural areas, affect access to education, and economic opportunities. We engage communities in dialogue initiatives to promote conflict resolution, support vocational training programs for youth employment and basic services, and advocate for gender equality and women’s empowerment through awareness campaigns and capacity-building initiatives. Kunar, with a population of 428,800 spread across 16 districts, confronts significant challenges due to its mountainous terrain, with 96% of the population residing in rural areas. This leads to limited public services, high poverty, unemployment, and vulnerability to natural disasters. Additionally, there are issues with agricultural productivity, electricity access, and gender disparities in education. ADWSO addresses these challenges by enhancing livelihood programs and promoting peace and community cohesion initiatives. This includes supporting income-generation activities within the community, implementing sustainable agriculture practices, and promoting gender-inclusive education and employment opportunities. These efforts foster resilience and sustainable development in the region.
